The Architects Act

The Architects Ordinance or the Architects Act as it is known today evolved over the years in light of transitions within Singapore. Listed below are some of the more pertinent changes which had occurred over the years.

  • 1927 - Architects Ordinance 1926 (Chapter 64)

  • 1941 - Architects Ordinance 1941 (No 23 of 1941) & Architects By-Laws 1941

  • 1953 - Architects Ordinance 1951 (No 48 of 1951)

  • 1955 - Architects Ordinance 1941 (No. 23 of 1941), Scales of Fees

  • 1957 - Architects Ordinance (Chapter 189) & Architects By-Laws 1941

  • 1957 - Architects (Amendment) Ordinance (No 16 of 1957)

  • 1957 - Architects (Amendment) Ordinance 1957 (No 22 of 1957)

  • 1970 - Architects Act (Chapter 213), 1970

  • 1976 - Architects Act 1976 (No. 14 of 1976)

  • 1980 - Architects (Amendment) Act, 1980

  • 1985 - Architects Act (Chapter 12), Revised Edition 1985 of No. 14 of 1976

  • 1991 - Architects Act 1991 (No. 22 of 1991)

  • 1992 - Architects Act (Chapter 12), Revised Edition 1992 of No. 22 of 1991

  • 1995 - Architects (Amendment) Act, No. 3 of 1995

  • 2000 - Architects Act (Chapter 12), Revised Edition 2000 of No.22 of 1991

The Architects Act today lists down a host of ethics, codes and regulations which provides the framework to maintain professionalism in an increasingly competitive business climate. Registration is stringent and the Board requires registered architects to adhere to a high code of ethics and that they must fulfil with complete integrity their obligations to clients, the profession, and the public.
